What is the difference between shield braid brushing, twisting, cutting, and folding back?

These are four sequential steps in shielded cable termination preparation. Braid brushing separates compressed braid strands after jacket removal. Twisting consolidates strands into a drain wire tail for grounding. Shield layer cutting trims braid to a defined exposed length. Fold-back reverses braid direction over the jacket to expose inner conductors while retaining braid for connector backshell clamping. The EW-1060/1190/1195 automate brushing, cutting, and fold-back in one cycle; EW-1015/1015-1 combine brushing and twisting; EW-1045/1050-2 perform cutting only.

What is the difference between EW-1015 and EW-1015-1?

Both brush and twist shielded cable braid up to OD 8mm into a drain wire tail. The EW-1015 uses manually entered parameters. The EW-1015-1 adds PLC control with programmable parameter storage for instant recall between cable types. For single-cable-type production, EW-1015 is sufficient; for multi-specification lines, EW-1015-1 reduces changeover time to a button press.

What diameter range does the full Shield Process machine range cover?

Braid brushing covers OD 1–30mm. Automatic fold-back machines cover OD 2.5–9mm. Large-diameter brushing and cutting (EW-1205) covers OD 9–27mm. Shield layer cutting covers 4–100mm² conductor cross-section. Conductor twisting covers 0.1–4mm² stripped wire ends.

When should I use an automatic fold-back machine instead of manual shield preparation?

At production rates above approximately 300 pieces per hour, manual fold-back becomes the line bottleneck and quality variation becomes a measurable defect source. The EW-1060 and EW-1190 automate brushing, cutting, and fold-back at 700–1,000 pcs/h with consistent geometry. The break-even point for automatic fold-back equipment is typically 200–400 pieces per day depending on operator cost and rejection rate.
