Q: What is the difference between braid brushing and braid twisting, and why are both needed?
A: Braid brushing separates the individual strands of a braided shield after the cable jacket has been stripped — the stripping process compresses and mats the braid, making it difficult to handle for termination. Braid twisting then consolidates those separated strands into a neat drain wire tail that can be crimped, soldered, or connected to a ground terminal. Both steps are required to produce a usable shield termination; the EW-1015 performs them in sequence in a single operation.
Q: What cable diameter range and twist lengths does this machine support?
A: The EW-1015 handles shielded cables up to 8mm outer diameter. Twist length — the length of the braided drain wire tail produced — is adjustable from 10mm to 50mm. This range covers the shield termination tail lengths used in the majority of automotive, industrial, and aerospace shielded connector assemblies.
Q: What is the difference between the EW-1015 and the EW-1015-1?
A: The EW-1015 is the manual-parameter entry version — speed, turns, and direction are set directly on the machine controls before each operation. The EW-1015-1 adds PLC control with programmable parameter storage, allowing operators to save settings for multiple cable types and recall them instantly. For production environments processing multiple shielded cable types in sequence, the EW-1015-1 reduces per-type setup time to a program selection.
Q: Does the machine handle both clockwise and counterclockwise braid twist directions?
A: Yes. Forward and reverse rotation are selectable, allowing the machine to match the braid twist direction of different cable constructions. Cables with S-lay braid and cables with Z-lay braid require opposite rotation directions to produce a tight, stable drain wire tail without unravelling the braid strands.
